...or none of this stuff at all - I just can't get my head around data compression. Why use data compression if most of the data is useless anyway ? So why do we have an orchestra consisting of lots of people ? If we had to use data compression we could save the people on the orchestra ! No more 100's of orchestra members but only 10. That's rather clever on the marketing side as well ! Why have they never thought about that ?

No...seriously, this is a rather big effort concerning psychoacoustics, but being honest, would you like to be a victim of data compression in the audio sector ? And, apparently, you won't be able to hear the difference between full data and data compression systems. That's why most people buy the systems - they just don't realise how "sad" it sounds ! Listen to your MiniDisc player for a minute and you'll hear the differences !

So, what's the future then ? In my personal opinion, it will be a system like DVD, which would be used for high quality digital recordings. And no video and silly editing gimmicks - just pure music ! I guess it's time for a new system which really rocks the world on its quality side rather than on its quantity side...
